Celebrate Campus Sustainability Days taking place October 24-26. All events take place in the Center for Excellence, located near the Library at the main campus, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, Oroville. The events are free and open to the public.
 
Tuesday, Oct. 24
 
9:30 to 10:45 a.m. / Sustainability Studies Certificate Social - Past, current and future students and faculty share projects, accomplishments and thoughts about the world and the role of change agents in transforming social and economic structures. *refreshments provided
 
11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. / How to Become a Sustainability Champion in Your Workplace - Kristen Wonder, Sustainability Coordinator at San Jose State University and PG&E Energy Champion awardee, talks about her journey to create new job positions and leading initiatives in an academic institution. Also a Butte graduate.
 
Wednesday, Oct. 25
 
11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. / The Future of Clean Energy - Jon Stallman, Energy Solutions Manager, Integrated Grid Planning and Grid Integration and Innovation at PG&E.  The grid has changed more rapidly in the last 10 years than it has in the last 100 years as Prosumers (producers and consumers) use more Distributed Energy Resources (DER’s).  The future 10 years will see the emergence of the Smart Grid and the Grid of Things as the integrated grid platform creates many new opportunities for energy efficiency, demand response, clean generation, energy storage, computer technologies, smart controls, and so much more - The future of energy is BRIGHT!
 
12:30 to 1:45 p.m. / Careers in Clean Energy - Jake Pollack, Energize Colleges Program Manager at Strategic Energy Innovations talks about emerging job opportunities in clean & renewable energy and what training and skills will be needed to get them.
 
2 to 3:15 p.m. / Sustainability in the Curriculum - Mimi Riley, Butte College Faculty with Jake Pollack, Energize Colleges Program Manager at Strategic Energy Innovations will talk about how our higher education curriculum needs to adapt to prepare students for a sustainable future in all fields.
 
Thursday, Oct. 26
 
12:30 to 1:45 p.m./ Solutions to the Climate Crisis: How to participate in the global transformation  - Theo Badashi, Filmmaker & Planetary Advocate, takes you on an exciting exploration of leading movements in climate action and consciousness research. Also, a Butte graduate.
 
2 to 3:30 p.m. / An Inconvenient Sequel (Film) -  A follow-up to the original film, an Inconvenient Truth (2006), that shows just how close we are to a real energy revolution. 
 
3:30 to 5 p.m. – Post Film Discussion & Live-streamed Q & A with Al Gore – Dialogue with Butte College faculty and Creator/Producer of Inconvenient Truth Movie / former Vice President of the USA

Bios:

Theo Badashi is an ecologist, filmmaker and Butte College alumni whose film The Future of Energy: Lateral Power to the People was instrumental in framing the current energy debate. A former KZFR radio host and community organizer with a background in Integral psychology and philosophy, he has a life long dedication to justice and a unique evolutionary perspective. A doctoral student in the Philosophy, Cosmology and Consciousness program at CIIS in San Francisco, his research explores the relationships between technology, ecology, and the evolution of human consciousness and culture.
 
Jon Stallman has expertise in Distributed Energy Resources (energy efficiency, clean energy, demand response, energy storage), green building & building science. Jon began his career with PGE in Energy Efficiency & Existing Building Retrocommissioning. Accelerating these learnings, Jon pioneered a new approach to target DER’s at specific locations to manage the grid with a changing future. Jon was promoted to a new start up, Grid Integration and Innovation, tasked to create, innovate, and invent the grid of the future. Jon holds Masters degrees in Engineering Education and Program Development for Emerging Technologies from CSU, Chico.
